These events are designed to introduce non-Chinese Australians to Chinese culture and arts, thereby complementing existing friendships & economic ties. This performance is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy Chinese Opera and the Opera House at no cost. Sydney’s performance will include primarily orchestral and dramatic (operatic) performances crafted to introduce young Australians to the art form,
with popular Chinese tales such as Mulan (recently a Disney animation feature) included in the lineup. Over the course of the evening, concert goers will be introduced to Henan, Beijing, and Shaanxi opera styles, as well as techniques for applying the elaborate face makeup used in the shows. The event will be broadcast live from the Opera House via Satellite Television. Concert goers should be aware that the crowd may appear on television as part of any background shots. The program takes as its central theme from the Henan Opera Symphonic Concert. Featured items include orchestral performances, Chinese opera renditions, solos, and performances by choirs from Henan Province. Previous performances within China have been very well received, and various items have been broadcast live on television.
