Description: To celebrate reaching ‘One Year to Go’ to the Beijing Olympics, on 8 August 2007 the AOC’s NSW Fundraising Committee held a fundraising dinner in the Parkside Ballroom at the Sydney Convention Centre. Hosted by Johanna Griggs and David Koch, the dinner was a celebration of the depth and history of Chinese culture, as well as the tenacious spirit of Australian Olympians.
Reviews: The Australian Chinese Performing Artists’ Association was instrumental in providing and arranging Chinese performance arts groups for the performance element of the dinner, in conjunction with Andy Webster Events. Performances included traditional drums, dragon dancers, kongfu displays and Mongolian children’s dance. The venue was turned out spectacularly, with extensive use of computer lights and Chinese lanterns to create a strong Chinese overtone. The dinner rose over $500,000 for the Australian Olympic Team Fund, which will be used to send the Australian Olympic team to Beijing. The event was hosted by Mr. John Conde AO, Chairman AOC’s NSW Fundraising Committee for Beijing 2008 and Mr. John Coates AC, Chef de Mission of the 2008 Australian Olympic Team.
