With the success of the Beijing Olympics fresh in our minds, and with the wonderful window into Chinese culture provided by the opening ceremony, the Kaleidoscope of Chinese Opera Australian tour seeks to take Australian audiences further on their journey towards understanding the proud history of Chinese culture and traditional performance art.
The performance features a world class troupe, including five winners of the prestigious MeiHua award – the Oscars of the Chinese Opera award. This cohesive and honed group has toured extensively in China, Europe and the Americas. The programme features a delectable blend of Huangmei, Hui, Yue and Peking styles of opera in one highly polished performance covering scenes from romantic tales Tianxianpei (Romance of the Goddess), BaiNiangzi (Legend of the White Serpant) and romantic comedy Nvfuma (The Emperor’s ‘Nephew’). These tales form some of the most well known legends in China, and are the basis for a spirited introduction into this resurgent art form, with the performance skill |
