We should follow the example President Hu Jin Tao has set for us, to act personally, being both worried and concerned for the well-being of those in the disaster areas. The rapid speed of support sent to Taiwan has been met with sincere gratitude, along with additional offers to send much more support. The first hundred sets of relief supplies for the disaster areas is being set up to be delivered to Kaohsiung Harbor by the 18th. Mainland industrial enterprises have also collected donations up until the 19th, raising up to 11 million Taiwan Dollars, and in addition six news networks have hosted flood relief programmes raising an additional 3.1 million RMB.

At the same time, Hong Kong, Macau and other overseas Chinese organizations are also raising funds to give to Taiwan.” Mr. Hu continued on to say how the flood relief contributions made by the multitudes of Chinese demonstrate how blood is indeed thicker than water, signifying the strong filial tie between people, especially when in need.

The Sydney Chinese Community has been diligent not to fall behind in the support shown for the Taiwan Flood Relief. A fundraising event was organized, representing the Sydney Chinese community, and the Consulate general responded with a heartfelt thank you, thanking the many guests which attended and contributed to the evening. Those involved in the organization of the event, Guozhong Wan, Yansheng Zhao, Jingwu Yu, Qiguo Qian, Fengxin Lee and others, all expressed a spexial thank you to all those making the event a success, and for the community for coming and joining to provide support for the Taiwan Flood Relief.
