Hosted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of P.R. China, Supported by the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney, Nan Hai Culture and media (Australia)Pty Ltd. and the Australian Chinese Performing Artists’ Association,
After touring over 50 countries, the Chinese Acrobatic Spectacular finally made its debut on Australian shores, participating in the 2012 ‘Cultures of China - Festival of Spring’ celebrations. The Sydney Entertainment Centre accommodated this unforgettable night on the 9th of February, 2012. Audiences were blown away by the thrilling combined display of jaw-dropping heroics and mastered artistry of traditional Chinese acrobatics. What better way to celebrate the 2012 year of the dragon than with the stunning strength and beauty of this 2000 year old art form.
The star of the show- the China Canton Acrobatic Troupe, established October 1951, is undoubtedly the best acrobatics team China has to offer; astonishing the world with their unparalleled performance during the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony. Over the past 60 years, the team have not only toured all over the globe, but have also attained 28 world-class titles in acrobatics recognised internationally in France, the UK, Belgium, Monaco, Italy and Sweden; making them the only acrobatics team in China with such high achievements. Among these include 5 President of France Awards and 2 Monte Carlo Awards, to name a few.
Just as the practice and appreciation of acrobatics have long served as a bridge for cultural exchange, so too have the platforms on which they are showcased. ‘Cultures of China - Festival of Spring’ is an annual global program organised by the Chinese Association of Exchange and Overseas Affairs Collaborate, serving to bring the quintessence of Chinese art and culture to world. The 2012 Sydney celebrations were jointly operated by Nan Hai Culture & Media (Australia) Pty. Ltd. and the Australian Chinese Performing Artists' Association (ACPAA), both Sydney-based organisations.
