40 Years of Australian andChinese Diplomatic Ties Celebration by
the Chinese Community in Sydney 2012
To celebrate the 40 years of SinoAustralian relations, celebrations were held at Darling Harbour's Tumbaloong Park in recognition of the Chinese community in Sydney, Australia. The festivities started with a traditional lion eye-dotting ceremony, followed by lion and dragon dancing and performances of song and dance.
Background
SinoAustralian relations refer to the relations between the Australian Commonwealth and the People's Republic of China.
The relationship between China and Australia has grown considerably over the years. Both countries are actively engaged
economically, cultural and politically which spans different organizations such as and the G20, APEC, and the East Asia Summit. It was under the Whitlam Government (Labor Government) that Australia began formal diplomatic ties with China
in 1972.

1. A carnival presentation by the Chinese Community groups in Darling Harbour on 28th October 2012, featuring the most spectacular Dragon
and Lion dance, with 4 Dragons and 40 lions to symbolise the 40th anniversary
